Lou Lou's Vintage Fair Haul

In September the Lou Lou's Vintage Fair was back in Nottingham. Since my last visit to the fair I have developed a massive appreciation for all things vintage. On this particular Sunday I was on the hunt for some vintage accessories to liven up winter wardrobe.

Here are a few pictures from my trip...

You can get your hair done by The Little Vintage Beauty Parlour. I was watching them at work and honestly the hairstyles they did were amazing, I was so tempted to get mine done...but maybe next time.

Here are some of the vintage goodies I managed to find...

I picked up this beautiful necklace from 'Dear Rose with Love' which is a business that source and sells vintage jewellery. I've been on the look out for a dainty necklace for everyday wear and this really caught my eye. It cost £7, which is slightly more expensive then other necklaces at the fair, in fact 'Dear Rose with Love' items are a tad overpriced, I think that's because they are all new. 

I feel the next thing I brought is either a love it or hate it kinda thing. I absolutely love it, as the saying goes 'a girl can never have too many handbags' (or is that shoes). When I saw this handbag at the corner of my eye I wasn't sure if it was too grannyish (If you get what I mean), and not the sort of thing that goes with me style but when I tried it on there was something about it that I fell in love with!

The stall owner informed me that it was a real leather designer handbag from the 1970's, and a bargain for only £15. In the summer my guilty pleasure was watching Gok Wan on This Morning, and apparently 70's fashion is huge at the moment, so I figured Gok Wan would be proud ahaha!

Next, I brought this chevron midi ring for £3, to add to my collection.

I also brought this small tea pot for my Mum!

Finally I picked up these two blingy necklaces.I especially love the one on the right, I love how sparkly it is - now all I need is for a special occasion to wear it to!

A Devoted Tea Drinker's Favourite Mug's

There is nothing more relaxing than curling up on the sofa in your PJ's with your favourite mug filled with tea. But, I’m a tad fussy when it comes to mugs to drink my beloved tea from - please tell me I’m not the only one?! 

The cup has to be big enough so you can get the most tea, yet not too big that you strain your hand each time you go for a sip, the handle has to be sturdy enough that it doesn’t feel like your tea cup will snap and spill all over you. And not to forget it should have a pretty design on (who wants to drink their tea out of a boring mug?!) 

Weird - I know, but I can't help buying cute mugs I don't really need! All my mugs have memories attached to them; some have been presents from loved ones and some souvenirs from random places I have visited. 

So, today I thought I would share some of my all time favourite mug's with you:

The first one is fondly referred to as the swimming pool mug by me and my family, because it's one of the biggest mugs I have ever seen! This one I brought at the Harry Potter studios in London. I fell in love with this mug, as I'm a huge Harry Potter fan.

The size of this mug is ridiculous, now as much as I love tea I could never have a full cup of tea in this gigantic mug, I can only manage half a cup!

Next up is a gift I received on my 17th birthday. This one is slightly more normal sized, what I love about this mug is the fact there is room to put some (two to be exact) of your fave biscuits. Only down side of this mug is the fact that the handle is too small.

I can't find the exact one that I have as it was a gift, yet this one is very similar (here)

Finally, I love using this 'First Class Tea Drinker' mug which literally sums me up...

The British Tag

I love all things British and I definitely think the twitter page Very British Problems is an accurate representation of my life haha! For a while now I've seen this tag floating around the internet and I thought it looked fun to do so that’s why I’m here with my cuppa ready to answer some questions! 

1. How many cups of tea do you have a day & how many sugar? Well…Its kinda obvious that I love tea considering the name of my blog! But to be honest I don’t have that much tea. I probably drink about 2-3 cups a day (is that alot?), possibly more if I’m a bit chilly. I have 1 sugar in my tea…I don’t know how people drink tea without sugar - it just doesn't taste right! I love tea soo much that my friend made this at Christmas for me...                                                                                                                                                                                                         
   
                                                   
2. Favourite part of your roast? Okay, I have to admit as I am a veggie I have never had a Sunday roast *everyone gasps* But I would think it would probably be the roast potatoes…yummy!                                                                                                                                             
3. Favourite dunking biscuit? Ooo this is a tough one, I think it would have to be chocolate digestive biscuits; I could literally eat packets of them! But my latest biscuit obsession are the peanut butter Oreos!                                                                                                                           
4. Favourite quintessentially British pastime? Obviously Afternoon Tea - you can’t beat a posh English tea! Also, I love going to the seaside when it’s freezing and having fish and chips. With that said I also enjoy moaning about the weather…or just moaning about anything really...                                                                                                                              
   
5. Favourite word? I’m going to be one of those annoying people and not answer the question properly…as I’m going to say my favourite saying which is “Ey up”. It’s a Nottingham greeting and I don’t know why but I love it - make's me giggle every time.                                                                                                                                  
6. Cockney rhyme slang? I’m from Nottingham so I don’t really know any cockney slang, only the most common one “Apples and pears” for stairs.                                                                                                                                          
7. Favourite sweet? I can't decide between Rhubarb and Custard boiled sweets and Lemon bonbons!                                                                                                                                               
8. What would your pub be called? Errr…*mind blank*                                                                               
9. No.1 British person? Princess Diana.                                                                                                      
10. Favourite shop / restaurant? John Lewis is pretty British, plus it has a ton of things in. I also like Primark (is that british?!)                                                                                                                      
11. What British song pops into your head? It has to be...                                                                                                                                                                                                               
12. Marmite? Detest it!!

Tea and Cake at Lou Lou’s Vintage Fair

In recent years I have developed a massive appreciation for all things vintage. I especially enjoy trawling through pictures of fashion from the 1960’s - I just love all the quirky jewellery and vibrant clothing. The other thing that comes to mind when I think of vintage shopping is of course, cute Victorian inspired tea pots and cake stands (what a surprise).

I have to confess though I've never actually brought anything vintage or been to a vintage fair before. When I happened to see an announcement advertising Lou Lou’s Vintage Fair coming to Albert Hall in Nottingham this September, I was super excited and decided I really wanted to go! So last Sunday my mum (who has an amazing eye for a bargain) and I took a trip down to the Albert Hall for our first vintage fair experience. In today’s post I thought I would share a few pictures from our mother daughter outing :)

So first impressions - it was very hectic! I really wasn't expecting so many people! Luckily we got there just as the fair was opening (we were incredibly eager) and were able to have a first look round before it became really crowded.

I was also pleasantly surprised by the sheer variety of stalls and bargains waiting to be snapped up – from cute floral tableware to vintage suitcases and gorgeous handbags – there really was something for everyone.

At one point I managed to lose my mum in the crowd…tracked her down a few minutes later though eying up some gorgeous cake stands - I don’t think she even noticed we’d lost each other! Someone was clearly enjoying themselves :) 

I thought these plates were just adorable – really wish I’d brought one now!!

For the clothing, there’s definitely a bit of rummaging through piles needed but it’s so worth it, as there were lots of hidden gems just waiting to be discovered…

It's a shame it’s not sunny anymore :(

So what did we buy…..

I picked up this cute top from ‘Mrs Bird Vintage’ for only £10. My sister asked me to keep an eye out for a good quality little handbag for her and after sending endless whatsapp pictures of what felt like every bag at the fair, she finally chose the miniscule but very cute bag in the picture above. The lady on the stall informed me that it was from the 1940’s and genuine leather. The bag was only £8… a bargain!  I sort of want to keep it for myself now…(shhh) 

All the jewellery at the fair was beautiful and there was just so much to choose from. I picked up this cute tea pot necklace, which I fell in love with at first sight for £5. I would definitely check out this shop (www.madamecherry.com) it has some amazing other pieces too. Also, I purchased a pair of scrabble piece earrings for £2.00.

And finally something to add a bit of elegance to my bedroom wall…

I am a huge fan of Audrey Hepburn!!

My mum purchased a gorgeous cake stand for only £5. We took ages deliberating between the array of unique designs, but finally chose this lovely one…

What we ate…

No post of mine would be complete without some reference to my love of tea and cake. In fact the first thing we spotted when we entered the fair was the vintage tea party area. It was tempting to make a beeline straight for the cake stall, especially as all the cakes looked so scrummy and enticing. I managed to control my cravings until after we’d trawled around the rest of the fair though, by which time the cakes were looking even more appealing to my tired eyes!

Unfortunately, however while the cakes looked amazing I was highly disappointed with the taste. We had a slice of the Victoria Sponge - it was too sweet and crumbly: I just didn’t like it :(

Despite the disappointing tea and cake, overall we had a great day and really enjoyed our first vintage fair experience :) Lou Lou’s vintage fair will be back in Nottingham on 26^th October I believe if you want to check it out.
